Hamilton marathon prep

Today I did a 29km run and felt exhausted. My pace is slower than I would like. Would like to achieve a pace of 6mins per km, but I'm averaging just around 7mins. Which means that it would take 7*42=294/60= almost 5 hours. That's too damn long! I think I can achieve the 4:15 mark by continually practicing over the next 3 weeks, but it's going to be a challenge. I will run again on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday, with Sunday's run being 32 km. I will do my best to work on my pace in the runs leading up to Sunday.
Why am I doing this, for one its a challenge that is very difficult. The only way to do it is with discipline. I also enjoy running because it makes me feel good, ala Prozac and helps me with weight control, because I do like to eat.
I work an office job and running makes me feel like I'm getting my activity. The downside, it's hard on the knees, it's time consuming, and I wonder if I'm going to get arthritis as a result of this.
Like any challenge it's just putting blinkers on and just looking down, focus on the next step and eventually you've run 30kms, not thinking so much about it but just setting a time and doing it.
Adios

Calmness

I woke up this morning feeling a sense of peace. I had been reading/watching a lot of spiritually related material from Eckart Tolle's books and a video called What the Bleep do we know. I realize that my mind plays a lot of tricks that shape my emotional experience, or rather roller coaster ride. Tolle calls this mind content, and our mind is always complaining saying it needs more and it doesn't have enough or "I" am not enough. As i went to bed, I had the same thought feeling like I need to study more or watch my World War 2 dvd collection that has been sitting on the shelf for years in a span of a couple weeks. It was like I was searching for more content and not satisfied with knowing what I know.
When I woke up, I just thought about love and doing things from the heart. This is my natural state and when I do things this way, I feel more connection with what I'm doing and even more aliveness because it's what I genuinely love doing. I hope to keep listening to my heart as these days pass and will share the results on this blog.

Much love,
Krisen

a few minutes of downloading.

You need VLC media player to watch flv videos...it's also free, for

Ottawa Marathon Day! May 30th, 2010

Here are some pics from the marathon...oh such sweet joy to finish the race in one piece. Don't have much to say, the pics tell the story. I finished in a comfortable 4:40 time.
A little rest and ...on to the next :)

O marathon Gods, give me a nice ride.

on Sunday at 7am is my first marathon. Why am I doing it..I'm not sure, it sounded like a good idea at the time. I am considerably more humble in my expectations of this run. Initially i was targeting 4hrs - 4.5 hours but I will settle for 5hours and a nice comfortable finish. I want to take in the view of the parliament buildings and the canal and soak up the atmosphere of all the thousands of runners. I'm looking forward to the crowds cheering, the multi faces of running. I remember the last half marathon, running behind a blind guy who was holding on to a rope and keeping pace with a partner runner. damn that was inspiring. Also remember thinking i was hot shit and being passed by a woman in her 50s...so there, lots to learn about myself and appreciate during the race.

Peace out and much love,
Krisen the 42k man.

marathon training runs

I just completed a 27km and 29km training runs for the marathon. I started carrying my iphone so that I can take pictures during my run. There's also a really cool app called runkeeper that uses GPS and tells you in a sexy voice after ever km you complete...need all the motivation I can get!

Training for this marathon has shown me how much of it is just pure conditioning and incremental success..no instant gratification here! well except for all the chocolate i eat during and after :)

April 4th 27th run at the Beaches and Lesley Spit

With Anoop at the 15km mark, got some dude to take the pic and it was very sunny. Lesley spit is a great place to run and enjoy the lake view!

April 11th 29km run at trail around Buffalo University

This is the Buffalo North Campus, lots of freshman running on the trails.

Another pic while running on the trail. I ran the first part with my cousin Alan. This was a beautiful 10mile trail that I ran almost 2x to make up the 29km distance. Nice chaning scenery. I stumbled accross a snake as I was getting ready to take a wiz by a tree...that inspired me to keep running!
